The rite of the Blessing of the flame took place at the foot of the Altar of the Confession. The initial procession from the Altar of the Confession to that of the Cathedra passed along the side of the Altar of Saint Joseph. The singing of the Gloria accompanied the progressive illumination of the Basilica. During the ceremony, the preparation of the Paschal candle was omitted, and the baptisms did not take place, only the renewal of baptismal vows preceded by the blessing of the Holy Water.
