Message a to His Excellency Mr. Hassan Gouled Aptidon, President of the Council of Government of Djibouti*
To His Excellency Mr. Hassan Gouled Aptidon, President of the Council of Government of Djibouti.
On the occasion of the proclamation of the independence of your country, we wish to express to Your Excellency, to the Government and to the People of Djibouti, our most cordial wishes for prosperity and peace.
It is also our wish that the Republic of Djibouti may experience a future of progress and, through the effort and concord of all its citizens, may find its place in the community of African nations.
The Catholics of Djibouti, we are sure, will not fail to make their contribution to the social and cultural development of the Nation in a collaboration that is loyal and effective at the heart of the new institutions.
We join with these wishes out fervent prayer, imploring from the Almighty the abundance of his blessings on the Authorities and on all the citizens of the Republic of Djibouti.
From the Vatican, 21 June 1977.
POPE PAUL VI
